English grammar at the 7th class level plays a major role in building a student’s language foundation. The new textual grammar for the Academic Year 2024 focuses on practical usage, classroom-based examples, and activity-based learning. These concepts have been compiled and prepared by Mr. Prabhakar Mallavarapu. The following note explains the main grammar components covered in Units 1 to 4 for Class 7.

Unit – 1: Vocabulary and Word Forms
Students learn new words, their meanings and how they are used in sentences.
In addition to meanings, this unit teaches how to change a base word into its correct grammatical form while completing sentences.
Examples include:
- promise → promise / promised
- judge → judgement / judge
- differ → difference / differ
- answer → answer / answered
- necessary → necessity
- wise → wisdom
- decide → decision
- forgive → forgiveness
This helps the learner to apply the appropriate noun, verb, adjective or abstract form in the blank.
Unit – 2: ‘If Clause’ Sentences
This unit teaches combined sentences using “If”.
Students understand that an ‘if-clause’ expresses condition and the other part shows result.
Example:
If you study regularly, you will do well in the exam.
This unit also includes exercises where students have to choose the correct form such as:
- if you want to
- if you don’t want to
- if you want him to
Students also learn antonyms by matching opposite words like “long–short”, “lost–found”, etc.
Unit – 3: Reported Speech
Students practise converting direct speech to reported speech.
They learn how to change:
- tense
- pronouns
- word order
Example:
Direct: “I accept the challenge, Your Majesty.”
Reported: Gopal told the king that he accepted the challenge.
Learners also expand their dictionary skills by finding meanings of new words such as “challenge”, “mystic”, “comical”, “courtier” etc.
Selected words are then used in fill-in-the-blanks to make meaningful sentences.
Unit – 4: WH- Question Words
This unit explains the usage of question words like:
- what
- who
- where
- when
- why
- which
- how
- whose
Each question word expresses a specific function such as asking about place, people, time, manner, reason or possession.
Students complete dialogues and fill in sentences by choosing the appropriate question word.
This unit also teaches prefixes like im- and in- to form opposite meanings such as:
- possible → impossible
- patient → impatient
- proper → improper
Conclusion
The AP Textual Grammar for Class 7 English (2024) focuses on practical communication-oriented grammar.
Through vocabulary enrichment, conditional clauses, reported speech, and WH-questions, students become more confident in both spoken and written language.
This syllabus ensures that learners not only memorise grammar rules but also apply them meaningfully in everyday usage.
